Last Monday, I have attended this workshop regarding the Marriage
and social issues regarding it. It was a fruitful workshop, that made me
understands and realizes how family care and concern plays a part in my being.
The Singaporean trend in families, is that the household
size as compared with the 90’s, is shrinking and this could spell disaster for
the next generation. This shows that there may not be enough kids to support
the elderly. In addition, age group 30 to 40, 44.7% of the males and 36.9% are
single. They are at an age that should already have started a family, yet
aren’t. Why? Is the financial burden of a family too much to bear or do they
simply choose to be solitary?
The workshop, I attended is called “Sow the seeds, remove
the weeds.” It is by Mrs Sulim Grechem, she’s a Kindergarten teacher and founder
of the Playhouse or a Montessori. She is of European descent, married at 22
with 4 kids.
During her workshop, she told us that, “ we should raise our
children in a way that does not restrict their creativity and confidence” in
contrary to the PAP strict regime. She raised an example of what she saw during
an excursion to the park, how this child who just wanted to touch a flower, was
told “NO!” by the teacher and how the same thing happened when the child wanted
to pick up a leaf. Than she showed us a video of a documentary, involving 3
groups of children, being cared for by the same Teacher yet by very different
methods. The first group was being cared in a not too strict environment that
constricts the test subject’s creativity. The second group was cared for in a
way that would scare you when you see it, the teacher was very strict on them
and criticizes them harshly when they do something wrong. The third group was
allowed total freedom, to run about and even fight in class. They tasked each
group to mold clay into Easter related things. However, the ending result
varies. The first group molded beautiful crafts like an Easter Bunny and baby
chick. The second group could only mold eggs, which they did and everybody mold
the exact same egg. The third group molded things that are not related to
Easter; also most of the clay went on the wall and the floor.
Her point about PAP being too strict and almost monopolizing
the child’s mind to be more focused on academic and placing less priority on
creativity. I must agree to a certain extent. At first, I even laughed along
thinking how it was funny and true. Yet thinking back, maybe the teacher from
PAP was just trying to protect the young’s curiosity and inquisitive minds from
the dangers of possibly harmful flora. Indeed, creativity is compromised in the
Singaporean society where academics are everything. Also, our society is like a
cookie cutter, where everyone comes out being the same, driven to be strong
academically and not focusing on our own mental well being instead! We should
be letting out children play, experience and hence learn. For the young minds,
this might very well be the optimal environment to grow up in. I could remember
in Kindergarten, where I was learning how to draw, the teachers actually gave
marks to grade my work and whenever I got an “F”. I would be depressed. This is
not what I would want my child to experience, I want my child to grow up in a
place where there are rules laid, yet not compromising on their well-being and
confidence. What impacted me was the documentary shown, it clearly showed how
children would flourish under different conditions. The first group, I take to
be representing the Montessori’s in Singapore, produced wonderful results. Yet,
the second group which would represent PAP, since the third group with too much
freedom is clearly unfitting, it produced children that followed suit with lack
of creativity and confidence. When asked what the test subject wants to be in
the future, a child from the second group actually said he wanted to be like
the teacher and treat the children in the same way! This shocked me; it shows how
a simple arts class can actually influence a child’s mind. Thus, I agree that
PAP strict education on young children is actually too restricting and academic
focused.
Also, the seminar at the later end, we bring together out
focus on a question and answer session. Where my classmate brought up this subject
of getting married early. The panel was very agreeable to this idea of getting
married early. The panel even advocates to us the idea that getting married
early is good because we would still have the “energy” to get back into the
workforce and not gamble our life away on a high-risk pregnancy.
I used to think getting married early is good. However, this
seminar changed my perception. I find the idea of getting married early,
stifling and wrong even! They said that at our tender age of 19, we could get
married if we want to. I beg to differ! We are at an age where we are still
financially unstable, with no financial backing except for our parents, how
else could we actually think of supporting our spouse? Also, at the age of 19
we are all still not mentally mature enough to even know what kind of spouse is
for us. Love to us, is just a game and nothing too serious, yet! Marriage is
not just about two, it involves the whole family! It is something sacred that
should not be wasted away just because of our rashness in the beginning that
brings pain to everyone else and the most fragile: children.
Overall, I find the seminar enriching. However I am not
satisfied with the open-ended answers given by the panel. It is like leading a
blind man up a staircase halfway and leaving him there to figure it out. I
believe we can take their judgments on certain issues but must take in the information and decide which would really help us. Example: such as the PAP and Montessori’s difference
in results for children. However , for the early marriage part, it’s best to take the information in
with a pinch of salt! You wouldn’t want to be regretting after a failed
marriage due to wrong judgment because you were young.
Gosh~ Poly life had already started for like 4 weeks? then here I am blogging about it.
Firstly, I could remember the awkward first day, I had in school and it was just well ...awkward...
I don't feel like socializing and misses secondary school life ALOT! I felt like I couldn't "click" with them well and was terribly worried. Don't worry; I'm still the "socially-awkward"one there.
There's this guy called Alden, who is super stylish! His first day look was a "KILLER!" Frankly speaking, I was like "woah~" when I saw him. Than, I meet Elizabeth, She is this petite girl yet her laughters are contagious , I Swear! Also, Pearly shocked me with her decision to try-out for Muay Thai! She looked like an "art's" person. Apparently, I was wrong! Fabian is the hoody guy of our class , Xiao wei is still sharpening his swords of sarcasm and Kiat is well... "Kitty." The name was given by DJ Sushi! I can't miss out the "destruction" of our class Lynette , Miss Kim NaNa of our class; Jovita and Sweety-pie Min Jun. Not forgetting , Faith , Rowena , Shariel , Joni and Synyin. I actually met most of my classmates in FBC camp though like Lynette , Sonia , Min Jun , Alexia/Clarissa and Fabian. I might've forgotten some name though, nowadays my STM is getting from bad to worse.
I've decided to join Track and Field , partially due to Sports Camp Influence and Wardina's presence. Our timetable were too different ,making it hard to meet! The people there are really friendly, although I still need time to warm up. I met like Sherdyn aka Sardine , Tricia aka the Cat , Joanne aka B1 , Haikal , Billy and Fammi! Hong , Joel and Weien was in Track Camp too! BRONTO POWER!! XD
Shall talk about TRACK CAMP! We had this catching game , for the first round I was actually the last man standing, Believe it or not! However, tragedy struck during second round as I fell and abrased my left arm and knee caps. I have no idea how I fell , I just felt pushing than Wardina fell , I felt my balance was off and started scrubbing the floor with my hands.
Later on , we played this Star and worm game? Where a selected one will scream "I'm the BLABLABLA~" and we would dash towards him , forming a line. Lastly we played this "spin yourself in circles" thing and layed down on the field , admiring the stars.
At first , a few of us were sent off to the lofts and were playing games. Then , we were brought downstairs and were told to prepare for an interview... I kinda freaked out a bit and kept quiet ... We were lead outside to another room , opposite and given a note. So , turns out we are going to have a haunted house thingy. The seniors actually pushed me and Junjie in , when we literally stoned at the door. Also , not knowing that he had an injured toe and I kept dragging him around. I felt so bad and the worse , his injured toenail actually got ripped off a bit when Benjamin pulled his leg. I literally LOL-ed my way through. When we came back , we just camwhored and chatted the night away. I shared whose my eye candy , Joel Tham just had to tell that guy immediately and in front of my face. Must admit , He is quite cute! The second day , I had to book in and out from camp while everybody had fun :C and during night time , we had some troubles too but " all is well!" Third day , me and Wardina left early for work. We are such workaholics . I know.

I had a 3 days off from my work schedule. Funny how nowadays , I realized that the mood to work isn't there and I just want to have fun spending time with my secondary school friends. The first day was spent in USS where me , WY , JC , JN , PY and WAWA went on a hunt to try all the rides there. I was their tour guide and I felt amazing . We went on from the mild to the extreme. I am proud to say , I sat on Galatica human and Cylon ride thrice each. It's a mini accomplishment for me and someday I want to head to Six flags to seat on KINGDAKA!!! That's my aim in life , to experience the mini heart attack in roller coaster rides!
My brother is very , very intrigued by roller coasters. He went on researching about roller coasters , the fastest one , the one with most loops and the G Force or something of each roller coaster. However , My brother can't take roller coasters. I could remember him crying in Genting . I was thinking maybe he could become a roller coaster engineer or something but after that incidence. NO WAY!
The second day , my initial plan was to just go NP and install all the software in my Mac . Until , Xiao wei decided to go for the MCM outing too. We arrived fashionably late , Xiao wei kept blaming me but whatever it was partially my fault. We " ice-skated" till 6+ , but mostly I'm just walking around. I can't get the momentum of the ice skates . The professional ice skaters were like twirling in their beautiful skates while I walk around like a duck. Met the other MCM people like Jake , Kiat , Shiori , Amelia , Charmaine , Joanne , Zhi xin , GRACE!! , Nicolene , Justin and Sherlyn ( Sorry if I missed out any you guys!) They were nice and I hope to be closer to them!

I'm back from Sports Camp! My previous post said Sports Camp was either the beginning of horror or excitement , I must say it was the latter that happened. My Group is called "Bronto" and my Gls are Carolyn , Bernard , Alicia , Yoko , Eddie , Eugene and Haowen . My group consist of Lisi , Dominic , Joel , Wei en, Hong , Wen Yang , Yong Lin , Beh Chong , Sulaiman , Fitri , Hui Mun , Marcus , Prima , Jacelyn , Fiona , Jizz , Mei Ying , Pancake , Shahril and Benjamin.
The first day was a tad awkward for me as I have to get used to meeting new people in Bronto while Wardina , Kelin and Wenghou are happily in Reddians. We had to introduce ourselves and that's where I first met Fitri from Facebook. The most memorable part , was that I had to do a forfeit which was doing a cheer in the middle of the Reddians and can you feel my awkwardness ; I felt like hiding inside a hole when I forgot my cheer. I remember one of the first activities , was doing this duck walk thingy to collect paper plates which I paired with Joel after knowing he knows Diqq and this pass the pocky game by lips! We also had to swim , can you believe it? I actually swam which I had never attempted before! but not forgetting the life vest or I would be drowning and not here blogging. It was very upsetting at the debrief when we heard Carolyn actually cried because we simply ain't bonded enough and that we aren't cheering as a team.
The second day passed by in a flash but it was one of the best days in Sports Camp for Bronto . We had PT's in the morning , dragon boating if I remember correctly and at night Station games! I felt that the second day , the group was spurred by the GLs comments and how it was going to be their first and last time as a GL that we totally cheered and be sporty. The dragon boating was quite short though , I could remember the Senior that kept on correcting me on my posture and it was really annoying. I was thinking the whole time, " Just let me do my thing and row the boat!" Afterwards , one of the group members noticed that I have this red patch on my head which was sunburned... I forgot who but Thanks for telling me! My favourite night games was the waterfall web which is like a obstacle course thing but done in pairs with a cup of water hanging out of our mouth. We collected a lot of plastic bags for our last game and we emerged first to get our flags back! I felt like we were like the underdogs or something. It was also the second day where I really cheered and go high~~
After the second comes the third where we had Polympics and I participated in dodge ball! It was super fun , Jacelyn dodged the balls like a dancing ballerina~ whereas I always kena hit by the ball.. BUT!! It was still very , super and damn fun! Than we prepared for our dance performance , me and Jacelyn had to choreograph Super bass chorus which I brain lagged for awhile.. Going on to the camp fire , we had our face painted and I choose a moustache which looked damn ugly and ridiculous.I was expecting the one at 9gag but what I got was one " Manly moustache." I could still remember how me and Benjamin laughed when we realized we got the same moustache! I was actually abit scared of the dark and the tunnels when I first went in until I saw the 2 helpers head and actually just LOL at them. I even stepped on one of the helpers hair by accident. There was even a point of time where I am so scared , I sang Champagne showers until at the last part where the GLS are waiting to take picture... I heaved a sigh mentally.

Today was a day filled with halcyon and melancholic moments.
Let's talk about the melancholic moments , We were walking around exploring Haji lane when Wardina's phone rung. I knew something was wrong , the second call came and this time Wardina eyes were teary and her face was shivering as if controlling her tears. She finally broke down .She left for home leaving behind a hint of bitterness. Wanyee , Me , Diqq and Alex were in a daze of what to do after she left. We just stood by the road as if feeling the lost of a loved one. We left Bugis for Orchard , we didn't really do any shopping as I knew I was affected by the news of Wardina grandmother in her last moments. The halcyon moments was when Diqq actually took a bra top in one of the shop houses and asked if he looked pretty in it. Also , when we went to find Hocklai at Causeway point and had dinner there with Huda joining us. All of us were very full with our belly showing and yet Wanyee and Huda managed to eat a brownie with Icecream...

I am currently addicted to Mblaq's Hello BABY!
A short summary : Mblaq is a popular Korean band consisting of 5 members. Starting from the left is Lee Joon ; probably seen him in Hyunah's Bubble POP! , G.O; pronounced as Gee Oh the main vocalist , Thunder ; 2NE1 Dara's younger brother , Mir ; The maknae and Seung Ho ; The leader with heavy eyebags .
In Hello Baby , They would have to take responsibility in taking care of young children and would usually requires them to complete some mission like a bonding activity. However for Mblaq's season , they would have to take care of 3 multinational kids , from the left is Dayoungie Vietnamese mix Korean , Second is Leo ; a French mix Korean and lastly Lauren ; a Canadian mix Korean.
What I saw : Dayoungie is a very shy girl who and probably finds it hard to express herself but she does have a *hidden side* watch episode 2 . Lauren is the peacemaker or Angel amongst them despite her young age , she knows Fashion watch episode4! Leo is the mischievous one who's a little rough , however he is getting better now as he progresses from episode 1 to 4. Of all the Appa's , Korean word for Dads , I like Lee Joon best. He hugged Dayoungie when Mir "disciplined" her and also tries his best to talk to Dayoungie to get into the pool when G.O appa was playing with Lauren however he also knows when to be strict when Leo was rough towards him. I really liked Thunder and Seungho appa as they give off the Appa's vibe however I think they should spread their attention more towards Dayoung , Leo and Lauren!
Last Monday, I have attended this workshop regarding the Marriage

I'm back from Sports Camp! My previous post said Sports Camp was either the beginning of horror or excitement , I must say it was the latter that happened.

I'm Kaiqi here and the Nickname's Kiiqa. I am one of them up there~ The bubbly one!(duh~)
Birthday is on 12 August and year unknown! :p (A ladies age is a secret!)
